Show and Tell Friday

Not much to show this week I'm afraid.  I've only crocheted up a few beanies during the evenings this week.  But I have been working in the yard.  You see, I live in the desert and we have gotten almost 6" of rain at my house this year so far.  The plan was to redo the yard, put in some desert landscaping in the front, keep the grass in the back...last year we got the two hills in, put in some new trees (after taking out 15) and plants, got the sprinkler system updated and...well, we ran out of money and energy to get the weed barrior and rock in place...then it rained....and rained....and rained some more...UGH...I live in the desert for crying out loud.  The weeds have taken over.  I've pulled, mowed, weed-eated and sprayed but they are thriving in my yard anyway...mustard and foxtail to be exact.  Then there is this other weed that has a geranium like leaf...never had it until a few years ago.  Sooo....I've been in the yard pulling weeds out by their ground hugging roots most everday this week.  I've filled countless bags of them.  The foxtail down the edge of driveway are gone...for now, and the first hill in the front yard is now weed free.  Still one more hill to go.  I love my yard but at this point I ask myself why does it have to be so big.  Last night, every muscle in my body hurt...especially the backs of my legs and back from bending over and pulling those darn things.  

Now don't get me wrong...I did enjoy and am grateful for every drop of rain we received.  The desert is full of colorful flowers all a-bloom this year.  We've been out riding our ATVs several times and have really enjoyed the beauty of the flowers.  The cactus are blooming and they are amazing this year.  Here are a few pictures from last weekends trip for you to enjoy.  This tree was a real treat at Nickel Creek.  I've neve seen it in bloom before.

Show and Tell Friday

It's Show & Tell Friday and I want to tellyou about a fun, family oriented event happening just a short hour's frive from Las Vegas. Come out to the Casa Blanca in Mesquite on Saturday for the Springtime Bazaar.  There will lots of crafters, vendors, kids entertainment and more.  I'll be there with some great items for Mother's Day.  I hope to see you there supporting the little guy...um...gal.  It's going to be a great event. 

A small spring show

I participated in a small craft show in Mesquite on Saturday.  It's just a little over an hour's drive from home and sits on the Nevada/Arizona border.  I didn't know what to expect since I've never done a show there before.  Admittedly, I was apprehensive about the show....it was at one of the casinos in the old movie theatre.  Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised.  The attendance was good, the room was nice, it didn't smell of cigarette smoke and the set up was good...and we could access the room from the parking lot.  I think half of the vendors were selling jewelry but hey...no one else was selling what I did so better for me.   I'm glad I went...and I was invited back for the next one.  One great way to celebrate National Craft Month.  And on a good note, I purchased a card reader so I could down load my photos off my camera for your viewing pleasure.

Cassy goes to the vet

Did I ever tell you how much me and especially my hubby love our Cassy-girl. She is something special and Timm will do just about anything for her. She has been kinda coughing for a few days and seemed like there was something stuck she was trying to cough up. Could it be part of the rib bone she stole out of the garbage a few days ago? Anyway, it isn't getting any better so a trip to the vet was made for this morning. Nothing stuck, fortunately! Lungs are clear. It's a mild case of bronchitus (loosely known as kennel cough according to the vet)...totally treatable. She received a shot of amoxicillin and an RX for the same in pill form. She doesn't like shots by the way....nor the thermometer stuck up her butt, but she did have a mild temp so I guess it was necessary. Now we love our vet but I think he is pricing himself right out of our budget. It was $170 for today's visit.

So...Cassy, along with her mommy and daddy may not get to go camping this weekend with all their friends. She loves to ride on the ATVs, camp, hang out at the campfire, and play in the water. We will have to see, her visit ate a big chunk of our trip money for this weekend.

Snow in Las Vegas!

The jet stream changed and Las Vegas has been blessed with SNOW. Last time we had snow was 2 years ago, just a small amount. This is big news around here. Red Rock, Potosi, and of course Mt. Charleston go the most. The west side of town had up to 5" according to the news. We didn't get any at our house...just rain, although Sunrise Mtn has snow on it today when I got up. Woo Hoo! It was wonderful to finally get out of town. We haven't been camping since the end of January, and boy was I itching to hit the trail. Our ATV club went to the Gap Mountain area in Nevada about 165 miles north of Las Vegas. A cold front brought us scattered rain everyday (which is a treat for us around here) and very cool weather for Memorial Day (another treat for us by the way, we hit record highs of 108 the weekend prior). It was a great opportunity to try out our new rain gear, and may I say it works great! We spent 3 days riding in wide open Nevada among the sagebrush flats, pinion pine and juniper covered mountains, and everything in between. Cassy, our yellow lab, rode with us on Saturday on the back of Timm's quad...for 60 miles...she was awesome!

Here she is a the hot springs with Timm. She so wanted to get into the water after that stick but I didn't want stinky wet dog in the RV all night.
