Queen size rag quilt

I didn't finish this quilt during craft month but it's one of my most recent projects so I thought I'd still share.  I made it for my friend Vickie to use in her RV.  I made her one late last year as a throw and she decided she needed a bigger one for the bed. 

It barely was done in the nick of time and lucky to get even these horribly taken photos.  Notice Cassy and Shelby playing at the bottom of the picture. 

A bad representation of a beautiful piece...front and back.  Honest, it turned out to be a wonderful quilt and she loved it. 

A few rag quilts

I've been clipping and washing rag quilts since I got home from the hopsital. I think there are eight of them. Today, I finally took some photos and listed a few of them on artfire.com and etsy.com. These all measure about 40"x40" after washing.

These first two have Warm and Natural batting between 2 layers of flannel, making them extra warm and cozy for baby. I enjoy the colors for little girls (especially since I never had any).

These next to quilts are more boy oriented. I always try to make boy stuff since girly stuff (while it's fun to make) is so much easier to find. This one has a fun and comical dog print as wel as a multi colored stripe.

No batting between the 2 flannel layers on these. They are still cozy and warm but perfect for car seats and outings since it's not so heavy and bulky.

The other one is has 3 prints, including a multi-colored stripe, a marbled red, and a really cool bug print. I know several little boys who would love this one.

An finally, a unisex quilt for either boy or girl. It features a light blue print with a smiling star and cloud. A blue star print and additional yellow star print complete this wonderful rag quilt.

Surgery went well

Hey, I made it through my hesterectomy and I am home! It was an abdominal surgery since both my children were born by c-section. You know, I don't remember it hurting so bad though, probably since I had a beautiful child to focus on the last 2 times I was cut open. There was a lot more scar tissue than expected, infact, the uterus and bladder were adhered together. There was a very large fibroid attached to the uterus as well. The doctor explained it as half a mickey mouse hat. No wonder I wasn't feeling well. On a sour note, I had to come home with a cathiter and won't get it until April 3rd. Geesh!

Anyway, I'm home now and feeling better everyday. Mom and Dad have been over everyday to help and visit. In fact, they are grocery shopping for me today. Timm took off 4 days last week to be at the hospital and home for me...what an awesome guy he is. I think he worries a lot about me even though he won't admit it. I realize I do tend to do lots of things I probably shouldn't so he figures it's just par for the course. My kids have been good about helping me, I think they worry also.

On a crafty note, I finished tying the polar fleece blanket yesterday for Justin's boy. Today I am clipping rag quilts. I finished 9 of them before I went in so I would have something to do when I got out. Keep crafting everyone...it is still National Craft Month. I have faces to put on a few dolls and get them listed on Etsy and Artfire.

Thanks to all my family and friends for good thoughts, prayers, meals, and chores. I really do appreciate every bit of it. I can tell it's about time for another pain pill...and a nap.

trying to keep busy

I think I have just about everything done, caught up, and ahead around here. I have to admit I'm getting kinda nervous at this point about going in for surgery tomorrow (hysterectomy and bladder repair). I's had 2 c-sections so I know what recovery will be like and I'm bummed about being down for the count during the spring. ATV riding in the desert is the best then...it's not too hot, the cactus and flowers start to bloom, and it's really pretty.
I've made soup, chop suey, done a ton of laundry, changed the sheets, waxed the floor, pulled weeds most of the day on Saturday, and I've sewn 9 baby size rag quilts...5 of them today. I finished sewing up a fleece patchwork quilt today as well. It's pinned and ready to be tied off.
I need to shower, pack a small suitcase, re-make the bed and hit the sack. Need to get up at 4-4:30am to be there at 5:30am. Wish me luck!

More crafty stuff

It's still National Craft Month so keep on crafting your hearts out! I finished a skate order for a customer, she only wanted 3 orginally but ended up taking all five I had painted. I've also been sewing up that large pile of rag quilt squares into baby blankets. I four sewn right now and working on more today. You'll get to see them when they're finished. I think I will have enough squares to make about 8 of them.

I'm still moving more fabric to the new sewing room...so I am staying out of JoAnn's for a while. I have a lot of fabric! Not to mention wood, paints, and more. I have set a goal to use a majority of what I have this year. Donating extra supplies to a school or two is also on the agenda...so Cathy, are you need of any for your after school and art programs? I really have enough supplies to open a shop...and it's crossed my mind many times but now is not a good time to open anything kind of retail store. In the future, who knows. This town needs a decorative painting store.

A few things done

I've been busy the last few days with household things but I did manage to get a few things completed.

This is a wood picture frame. I applied scrap book paper, antiqued the edges with raw umber paint, put several coats of varnish on it, cut out the center and added some vintage Scrabble tiles. I will be listing it on Etsy later today at my site. It's Twiddlebugz.Etsy.com for those who haven't added it to their favorites yet ;). Got several others done also, but I think this one is my favorite.

I've also managed to get some organizing done in my sewing room, brought more fabric over, sewed up a rag quilt for Timm's nephew (you know, the one that is having a boy...see previous post about afghan), it's getting washed today. I found 2 boxes of rag quilt squares that are ready to be sewn together. Mostly baby flannel in the boxes...some with warm and natural in them some just flannel squares waiting to be used. So I guess that is my next project.
