The writing is on the wall

Litterally...I've been wanting to do this for a few weeks now and finally did it yesterday.

Wanted to give the kitchen a more personal touch and thought this was a great way to bring me and what I love to do into the kitchen. I only had to scrub it off once..lol...no I didn't offically measure, I just started painting letters on the wall. I'm really glad we bought good quality paint.

I liked the way it turned out so well, I even painted on the header in the dining room. I am going with more Americana stuff in there but still wanted the outdoor/lodge feeling since you look into the living room from there so I think the wording is more in line with the outdoors than the other phrase I was going to overlay. Here is a close up view of the dining room. You can see the shading under all the lettering in it better.

Now, I think I will head to the bedroom next for more graphitti...lol

Altered art anniversary gift

It's hard to believe that my son will have been married a year already in just a few weeks. (Officially, they got marriend in March but we held the wedding ceremony in May...I know confusing...it was in insurance issue). Anyway, I wanted to make them something that was uniquely them and this is what I've come up with. It's an altered art/collage piece.

It still needs to be mounted and framed but that will come next week. I'm telling you I must have 1000 scrabble tiles and several game boards. I purchase them everytime I find one at a thrift store.

They met in her home state of Minnesota so I have that on there in a vintage 'greetings from' postcard, they live here now so I one for that also. Pictures from the wedding are in included and where they were married.

I think it turned out totally cool and unique and after it's framed out it will be awesome! They make such a cute couple and they are really good for each other. (So far they say no kids...just dogs)

A few things done

I've been busy the last few days with household things but I did manage to get a few things completed.

This is a wood picture frame. I applied scrap book paper, antiqued the edges with raw umber paint, put several coats of varnish on it, cut out the center and added some vintage Scrabble tiles. I will be listing it on Etsy later today at my site. It's Twiddlebugz.Etsy.com for those who haven't added it to their favorites yet ;). Got several others done also, but I think this one is my favorite.

I've also managed to get some organizing done in my sewing room, brought more fabric over, sewed up a rag quilt for Timm's nephew (you know, the one that is having a boy...see previous post about afghan), it's getting washed today. I found 2 boxes of rag quilt squares that are ready to be sewn together. Mostly baby flannel in the boxes...some with warm and natural in them some just flannel squares waiting to be used. So I guess that is my next project.

A few good sites

Today I've been painting a little. Timm is working on water lines so when I dumped dirty water, guess what...no more water to fill the water basin to keep painting. Totally spaced it. I've got some sewing out now and this dang computer sucked me in again.

National Craft Month Project #1

My first completed project of National Craft Month, an afghan I had started a while ago. I've been working on it the last two days. I really like the way it turned out and I love the yarn, it's the Lion Brand Homespun. It's a really soft and fluffy yarn that just makes you want to wrap up in.

I started this one when I found out Tim and Allison were pregnant. Guess what? They're going to have a boy. So, it looks like I will be saving this one for someone else's baby.

Here are a couple of closeups so you can see the flowers.

I also added a scalloped edge to finish it off. There are 81 squares of yellow and lavendar raised flowers. It's a little bigger than anticipated orginally but you know how it goes. Short a couple of squares so you buy another skein of yarn and don't want to waste it so you keep making more squares. Anyway, I've enjoyed making it and someone will love it.

March is National Craft Month

That's right folks, March is National Craft Month. I knew I was born on a good date...hehe. So everyone, get your craft on! Pull out some supplies and create!

I plan to craft every day this month...okay, maybe those are my plans everyday, but what the heck. I am feeling creative and need to do something. Let me know what you plan to create this month by leaving a comment and at the end of the month one lucky person will get one of my latest creations.

Need inspiration? Stop by your library and pick up a book on crafting. Take a class at your local craft store. Support your fellow crafter and purchase a piece of their work. Attend a craft show.
