Already thinking about fall shows

Okay, is it crazy that I am already planning my fall craft show schedule? Yes, that is what I'm doing already. I'll be showing and selling my wares at Harvest Festival, Steve Powers Craft Festival, McQueen Craft Faire, and Art in the Park (jury committee willing). There are always a few home shows in the mix, and then I want to add a couple of Arizona and California events if there is time and product.

There is a huge stack of wood that needs to be cut into wonderful pieces to paint into treasures. I said I would be more prepared than last year. I plan to cut while the weather is cooler so I don't have sawdust sticking to my sweat covered body in July and August...honestly, there is nothing sexy about it. lol My bandsaw needs a new part and is just a bench top model, so I'll be loading up the trailblazer with wood and the dog and heading to my dad's to use his full size tools. It's so much easier and faster to get things cut...just not an easy, quick event. I like to get lots done while I am there so it seems like I'm there all day when I do that. But, I come home with a week's worth of painting to get done so I guess it's all good. I'm looking at doing lots of larger pieces this year so I'm excited to get started.

A new year...lots of new ideas, lots of cleaning and sorting, lots of planning...the list goes on and on. I'm sure you know what I mean and how I feel. There is so much I want to get done and this is a great time to get started on it. I try to be an organized person...but I'm a creative person...they don't always go hand in hand. I saw a quote the other day that said, "Creativity is messy, and I'm very creative." I think that fits me perfectly...hehehe.

Before Christmas I began working on some different photo frames and I love them. I've got tons of frames I've been hoarding, yes, I said hoarding..scary, I know. Anway, I think this is a great way to utilize them. They sold very well before the holidays and are continuing to do so. I've got a few more ideas to work with them as well. Since I hand letter the words, they can say anything you'd like them to. I love them.

Art in the Park 2011

I just realized I never shared pictures with you from Art in the Park. It was a good show for us again. We love the spot we have, and have been fortunate to have the same spot for the last 5 years. This year we rented tents instead of setting up our own...good move. We sold out of everything tall/large or on a post. Reno Recap

I just have to say I am so thankful we drove up on Thursday instead of my standard 3:30am Friday departure time. There were several delays due to road construction that put us about 2 hours behind on the way up there. It was much less stressful Friday during set up as well...which I attribute to a good night's sleep.

The crowds lined up early for Friday night. The best part...no children or strollers. One of my best and most loyal customers, Heidi and her daughter arrived at 4pm for the 5:30 opening just so they could be first in line.

Here are a few pictures of my booth to share. It's never quite as polished as I'd like it to be since there is only 4 hours to unload and set up in the courtyard. But it looked okay. By Saturday afternoon we were removing the center display pieces and re-arranging trying to make it look full again. Fall/Halloween were the best sellers for me.

I enjoyed the time I spent with my best friend, Diane and time shared with my brother-in-law, John and his wife, Rhonda. It's nice to come back to a home instead of a hotel.

Thanks to the ROTC and other students for helping unload, tear down, and load the trailer. It makes driving home 8 hours possible that night. We arrived home at 2am. I'm looking forward to next year already.

Reno, here I come.

Twentynine years ago today my high school sweetheart and I got married in the church I grew up attending...where my parents still worship today. I met Timm when I was 15, he was coaching an LDS softball team at the park across the street from my home with one of his friends. He had to wait until I turned 16 to go out on a date, and asked me to marry him the day I graduated high school...sprained ankle, crutches and all. Fifteen months later we got married...around all the groomsmen hunting trips.
I am so thankful this man in my life. He completes me. We've had our challenges like everyone else. We've been through thick and thin. In all that time, we've raised two wonderful boys, practically felt like we raised a hundred more through the Boy Scout program, camped and traveled, worked and played.

Happy Anniversary Timm...I love you more than life itself.

Whew, it's been a busy week. I caught up on some household , met with a bride, and relaxed a bit. Timm's been working on the dining hall all week. I'm pleased to say that the outside lights are installed and working. The facia is installed and the first coat of paint has been put on. Last night we worked on the interior window trim. It's looking awesome. I've gotten 8 ghosts and 8 witches painted. Chris has cut wood for me so I have more time to paint. Oh, and we've had rain!

More Display Ideas

Last time we discussed tables, so I thought this time around we'd talk about walls and hanging display ideas. Seriously, I think I have tried just about everything to make my booth creative, effective, and easy to transport. I really don't think there is a perfect solution to fit everyone but here are some that might work for you. Depending on what you sell, you may not need lots of wall space. For those of you who do, I hope these ideas help.
Pegboard: It comes in 4x8 sheets. I suggest you cut it down to a more managible size. I had cut mine down to 2x6 panels and framed them with 1x2's for stability. When I got to shows, I would screw them together through the 1x2's to make the size and shape I needed. One advantage, they are fairly lightweight, peg hooks are easy to find, and unfolded paper clips will work as well. It lets customer focus on your product and not through your booth into the next one. You can make a folding screen out of it without framing it as well. Simply use a few hinges with some nuts and bolts to secure. This can make it freestanding and easy to transport as well.
Gridwall: I finally gave in and bought gridwall after years of craft shows. It's heavy, which is why I avoided it like the plague...but I finally gave in, and you know what...it's great. It's weight has been an advantage for me at outdoor shows when the weather hasn't been so nice. I zip tie mine together...quick and easy. I have 2x6 panels, but they come in 7 and 8 foot lengths as well. It can be put together to form shapes, shelves, etc. I normally completely wall in my booth on 3 sides, clip sheets to the back side of them and have my own little space. You can get smaller pieces as well. I've even layed it down on it's side and a table to give a short back wall. It comes in white, black, and chrome. Check Craig's List, that's where I got mine and only gave $10/panel. New can be pricey.
Draping: You may not need a place to hang items. In this case fabric draping will work out well. I've made a pole and drape system for shows out of PVC pipe and fittings and solid color sheets. A friend of mine did made this system and used organza curtains in gold and burgundy for her jewelry booth. If you have a tent/canopy frame, you can simply clip your fabric to the frame. If you don't need to hang your items, consider having larger photos created of some of your items or you creating your art to hang from the draping to catch the customers eye.
These are just a few ideas to get you thinking...there are as many ways to display your work as there are types of work I'm sure.

Harvest Festival Review

Excited shoppers showed up in droves this past weekend to the Las Vegas Harvest Festival eager to shop and get their hands on some great handmade products from an event filled with really talented vendors. We filled our booth with mostly Halloween, Harvest, and general Fall items. We offered a few Winter/Christmas items but really didn't have room for them. Seldom was our booth empty...most of the time it was full of customers oooing and awing over things. They were so excited to hear we were local and they could get on a mailing list and get more items in the future. We passed out postcards of our upcoming events, added folks to the mailing list, and were pleased to have my scarecrow on the front cover of the current issue of the Country Register. Thanks to Glena for the opportunity to feature a local crafter on the craft show issue. I really appreciate it. Our larger items sold like crazy, in fact I sold all of my posts, large BOO ghosts, and witch on moon pieces. We would like to thank all our customers for shopping with us, we really do appreciate each and every one of you. We need to work our tails off and we'll see you in three weeks at Art in the Park. Display Ideas and Tips

Craft show season is coming quick and I thought I would share a few helpful ideas for your craft show season...I've been getting quite a few questions recently. Regardless how large or small your space is many of these tips will help. Today's topic....TABLES.

* Cover your tables to the floor. This creates a clean look and you can hide your boxes, supplies, etc under the tables. If your covering is a bit short, tape it to the table on the back side so it stays in place.
* Keep all your table coverings the same color. Choose a neutral color that will compliment your product. Solid colors are the best choice, your product will often get lost on a print.
* If you are doing a demo or standing at your booth, raise your table height. Add pieces of PVC pipe that will slide over the table legs to lengthen them. Mine are 14" for a convenient height. It will ease your back strain...and at the end of the day you'll be thankful.
* Flat sheets make good table coverings...and are very reasonably priced.
* Overlap table coverings if needed to cover your clutter, boxes, etc to reach the floor and cover the ends of the table.
* If you show all year round you may want to have a couple of color choices to gear towards the season. I have a pale green I use for Spring events and tan sheets for Fall. I also have black sheets but have found they show dirt (and dry grass) really easy so I don't use them outdoors.
* For a really fun look, place strings of lights on the table covering and then add another layer of organza table covering over it. The organza is a shimmery fabric to start and the lights under it have a great holiday effect.
* For adding different levels, place boxes on your table and cover them with another layer of table covering (same color). Depending on the look you are going for, tuck it under smoothly or bunch some of it up on the table. I will often use some of the smaller boxes that I brought my product in to add height...normally at the ends of the table with the center clear so that I can handle my transactions easily.
* Crates are a great way to add height to your table, use several together to form a taller tower to fill with your product. You can use them "as is" in their natural color or paint them to match your booth. Vintage crates are fun to use and add interest. I can't tell you how many times I could have sold my crates.
* Pin a banner to the front of your table with your business name. Just keep it light weight so it doesn't pull on your covering.
* A garland, leaves, pennant banner, etc pinned to the front help to decorate for the season, compliment your booth, and product without too being too distracting.

I hope these are tips and ideas helpful to you. Next time I'll be bringing you more display ideas.

WooHoo...actually getting Show & Tell done Friday morning. It's been hot here...really hot! I've cleaned up and put away my saws and sanders this week because of it. There's nothing like sweating and having sawdust stick to you...so gross. Until it cools off a bit they are back in the pump house.

So what's gotten done this week? Some porch posts, some ice skates, aisle stands for flowers, planning a couple of craft nights, chores and more. Wow...it's a witchy week I guess. I wasn't in a bad mood...I swear. lol

I love this witch fence. I've been putting together a whole series of them so to speak. You saw a few last week. Some of the witches are on posts...because. Let's just say you shouldn't just draw on wood, cut and hope it fits between the slats on the picket fences that were completed weeks ago. Honest, I do have a tape measure and know how to use it...apparently, not when to use it. Well, they're cute anyway.

The witch on the moon piece is one I bought when Lollipops & Roses closed. I glittered the heck out of the witch and wrote a sign to place across the piece. I like the way it turned out. The flash went off so it's hard to really tell it's black glitter.

It's been a busy week around here. This a little of what I was able to complete. There is a witch as well. Also among the list of things completed are some porch posts, a couple more BOO ghosts, and some witches. They are a retail product with a sign across the moon I painted and I also glittered the witches hair and her clothing.
I plan on a Thanksgiving and Christmas fence piece as well but I put the saws and sanders away for a bit so I can work on some cupboard doors and skates. Come back next Friday and see what else is finished around here.

Holy moly...only 38 days till my first craft show of the season! YIKES...I need to kick it into overdrive and get some stuff done. My weekend was quite productive. I was pleased with what I finished. Now to keep the momentum going.

Here it is...my schedule for the fall. I'm teaming up with my friend Diane again this year. Autumn will be at Art in the Park with us as well. I finally talked Diane into a name and she followed mine. Twiddlebugz is what I've called my kids forever. She called hers Doodlehoppers. Together I think it makes a fun name...we even had some business cards made with Twiddlebugz & Doodlehopperz for this season. We hope to see you out shopping at our shows. We've got some fun and unique stuff for you this year.

Yeah, yeah, I know...it's Saturday. But I've been busy don't you know. I've picked up a position as florist at an event venue for weddings and I've met with 4 brides over the last week and a half. No bridezillas so far.
I've also been to cutting wood in the morning and evenings when it is halfway tolerable outside. I've got plenty to paint for a day or two. This ghost is a blend of retail and handmade. I got the BOO from the store when it closed. It was actually a double sided, free standing piece. I tore it apart and what you see here is the back side letters. I took them apart, re-attached them in layers to a ghost I cut and painted for them, added some garland and...tadaa...a super cute piece for Halloween. I get double for my money on the BOO, and totally changed the piece. I cut four ghosts so far, I need to cut eight more. Each is it's own unique character, making them all one of a kind...sorta.

Friday, I went back to orthopedics for my knees. We are getting authorization for gel injections for both of them. This is a 3 injection process I am kinda anxious about (I've heard they're painful but my threshold and tolerance is pretty high) but I've cortisone injections for about 5 years now along with having both knees scoped (one twice). In the mean time, I got a round of a different cortisone shots yesterday and they feel fabulous today. Have a great weekend everyone!

Did you ever wonder if you were going to see another Show & Tell Friday from me again? I was. Since I am not working at the store anymore I am finding time to paint a few things between some much needed deeper cleaning and upkeep around here. I painted two of these french buckets this week...even got a pattern packet written up for it. I forgot how long that takes, but I am pretty detailed on directions. I also painted up two mini chests these two mini chests last week for a friend. I like the way they turned out. Originally, they had some teacup theme silkscreened onto them...much better now. It's hard to believe my baby is 24 today...where does the time go.

Seems like time flies in the blink of an eye.

Chris just enjoyed a trip to Kolob Reservoir with friends. His dog, Shelby went along. They both had a great time fishing, kayaking, and hanging out with friends.

Chris loves his truck. He just put new tires on it...and he had to try them out to see what they could do on a recent trip to St. George.

Chris is an awesome young man! I love him to pieces. Happy Birthday my dear!

My Last Day

Yesterday was my last day at Lollipops & Roses. I never thought I would get so attached to a store that wasn't mine, but I did. I honestly feel like a little piece of me has died. When I look back I can see why. I was the one who picked out and picked up the flowers, went to the floral supply house, created the floral arrangements, worked the counter, answered the phones, met and worked with the customers, met with brides, set up displays, stocked merchandise, took out the trash, worked 14 hour days for holidays, and more. Thankfully, Suzy came in on Saturdays. She was like my fairy godmother. When I came back in on Mondays, the floors would be mopped, windows done, and more. She's awesome! And like me, she cares about the store.
We've sold off ten's of thousands of dollars in merchandise over the last month...all at 75% off. Customers got some fabulous product, floral shops bought an enormous amount of vases, containers and floral supplies. I showed much restraint, but I even bought a few things. Heck, even the mailman bought candles. If anyone is interested there is still a wonderful floral display cooler available for an incredible price, just let me know.
Now, I have to reset my course and get back to crafting. Since I took this position I can count the number of days on one hand that I've had time to paint. Fall shows will be here before I know it and I must be ready for them if I am to make any money.

Here's wishing all our friends and my guys a Happy Father's Day! It was a low key day for us but we enjoyed a yummy lunch at Grimaldi's, saw our daughter in law, stopped at the nursery and was shocked at the price of pine trees, went to see my dad and brother, and enjoyed the day. We had dinner with Scott last night, tonight we had dinner with Chris. I love our boys and they wish for a great Father's Day for everyone. I hope you enjoyed yours!

The Wood Connection

While on our vacation this week I got to stop into The Wood Connection in Murray, Utah. What a great place that is! Finished samples and all the wood pieces you could ask for. I felt like I died and went to heaven. I bought wood for my friend, Diane and myself. Cute stuff...love the bead board accent pieces, the glitter, metal and more. Wish I could've spent the day, get to know the girls, and paint.

Officially Unemployed

It's a sad day. I love my job, but the store is closing. Yesterday was my last official day. I'll be giving my time for the next week or so to clear out the store of all sorts of goodies, dispay fixtures and more. Filing for unemployment was a first for me today, we'll see what comes of that. If you live in the Las Vegas area, please come by Lollipops & Roses for some great deals...there are many to be had. It's all kind surreal right now...and weird for me. Guess I'll be on the hunt for a new job. :(

Mother's Day

Seriously, I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day. I know I did. Hubby got my ATV fixed (the shop had it two weeks, but that's a whole other story). We spent most of the day out riding. Came home, relaxed a bit and went to Scott and Christy's for a yummy dinner with carne asada and ground beef tacos. It was delicious. I will need to hit the Mexican market to get some of that tastefully marinated meat.

I busted my hiney at the flower shop this past week. Thankfully, my friend Diane came to help me Thursday, Friday and Saturday...or I'd still be there working on arrangements.

Trash to Treasure Typewriter Case

A thirft store find while shopping with Aunt Shirley, I just had to have it. This kind of stuff is getting hard to find around here. After a few days, I came accross a design from Shara Reiner that I really liked...especially the saying. But you know me, I had to do it in my style. This is the finished product.

It's an old Smith Corona typewriter case. It's actually painted upside down...you know, the skinny side is actually the bottom of the case where the typewriter would be connected to. But I thought that would be too impractical, so I flipped it over to make it the top. The whole thing is painted black and then drybrushed in burnt umber to pick up the texture of the case (one of my favorite parts of it by the way). Then the design was painted, making use of the texture as well. Last, a border of daisies was added to the sides for interest. The whole thing was finished with 2 coats of DecoArt's Gloss Interior/Exterior Varnish for durability. It's a great product by the way. I think I will still wrap the handle with fabric just to top it off.

I got some painting done. You know, I used to take it for granted that I would paint 4-5 days a week. Now it is a luxury that is precious to me.
We made a choice many years ago for me not to work to outside the home so that we could raise our children. It was a struggle financially many times, but I know our whole family is better for it today.
Okay, I'm getting all mushy and I'm stopping now.

Anywho...I got to paint this weekend and it felt so good. Fall shows will be here before I know it. I worked on about a dozen little signs and two watering cans. I like the way they turned out. Here are some pics to share. Please ignore the plastic table cloth with paint on it. ;)

50 Years!

On Friday, April 1st was my parent's 50th wedding anniversary (no joke). They met through my father's friend, Norm...dated briefly and were married in 6 weeks. Mom borrowed a friend's (Elaine...Norm's wife) wedding dress, a friend made the cake, flowers from the church were used for their special day. I guess you could call it a whirlwind romance.

We celebrated with a gathering of family and friends on Saturday at their church. We've been planning for some time and trying to keep secrets from my Mom is not the easiest thing to do. However, we pulled off a great day everyone enjoyed. Norm and Elaine, along with Dad's brother Dave and his wife Lynn, flew in from upstate New York and Shirley flew in from Texas. They'll all be here a week to enjoy the company and great weather.
My hubby got another chance to use that huge smoker and cooked up 6 pork butts, 40 pounds of chicken and a 17 pound brisket for the party. I made beans and deviled eggs, Shirley made a pasta salad, and we had a quite a spread...no one went hungry. I made the flower arrangements, Carolyn and the girls decorated. Cheryl took photos, Nelson handled everything else. It was a team effort. I can't wait to get all the photos from the event. But today, we will rest...we were beat last night beyond belief.
Congratulations Mom and Dad! Fifty years is a huge milestone in a couple's life. Thank you for being a great example of unity and love, family values and ethics. What a great inspiration you are to me and so many others. We love you!!!!

An Easy Cleaning Tip

I spoke with my mom this morning. She said she was going to clean the grates on the stove. A pumice stick is what she uses and made the comment that it takes hours to clean them. I gave her this tip...which I thought I had years ago...apparently not.

Spray your stove top grates and your oven racks with "Easy Off", place in a large black plastic garbage bag, tie it up, throw it outside on the lawn to 'bake' in the sun. After 30-45 minutes, open the bag and spray them off with the hose...TA-DA!!! Shiny, like new oven racks and stove top grates.
Mom called me at work today because she was so excited about how well it worked...not to mention all the time it saved her.
Thought you might like this handy little hint as well.

NASCAR Weekend

You just gotta love it when NASCAR comes to Vegas. The car hauler parade down the strip, meet and greets with the drivers, special appearances at various locations...the list goes on. Once again, I spent the weekend in the infield selling ice to happy RVers with my friend, Liz. It's long hours but tons of fun...literally, tons...I think we moved several tons of ice this weekend.

The people staying on the infield and in the various lots outside the track start rolling in on Monday before the race. It's amazing, the race track becomes it's own little city...okay, big city. The people on the inside of the track are the ones we take care of. Liz and I are in charge of making the rounds and selling ice to all these happy people. Some of them have set-ups that will astound you. They form little compounds with their friends, forming horseshoes of RVs with their gatherings in the center. They set up canopies, tables, campfires, grills, bars, sound systems, and more. They decorate with all kinds of stuff including NASCAR stuff from cardboard cut-outs of their favorite drivers, banners, flags, plants, lights, posters, and more. They are there to have a good time.

RV rooftops are transformed into gathering places to watch the race. Chairs, stools, coolers, people all on top of the RV's to get a better few of the race.

We had a beautiful weekend, so ice sales were up. They kept us busy for sure. We heard the call, "Ice Lady!" countless times, some even called us "the ice fairies". They were always happy to see us.
I look forward to bonding with happy RV race fans again next year.

20th Anniversary for Creative Painting Convention

WOW! Time flies when you're having fun...it true. I can't believe it. The Creative Painting Convention is celebrating it's 20th anniversary this year! It's moved back to the Tropicana Hotel now that they've completed their renovations. Creative people from all over the world...seriously...are gathering right now to share their passion for decorative painting. Classes, discussions, make it-take its, demos, and shopping are here for your hearts desire.

I've had the pleasure to teach and have a trade show booth at this fabulous event in the past. I've met and become friends with several of my favorite designers. It's good to see them each year. Did you know I met Frank Bielic? Yup, he had a booth the same year I had my first booth at the show. What a character he is. You just gotta love him. Many of our leading and well know painting designers will be there once again. Priclla Hauser, Donna Dewberry, Sue Sheewe (ok, I know that's not spelled right), Shara Reiner, Laurie Speltz, and more.

This is a photo from last year, but you'll find me, and my BFF Diane there shopping to our hearts content stocking up on supplies, patterns, books, and more again this year. The trade floor is open Wed, Thurs, and Friday begining at 9am. See you there!

March is National Craft Month

That's right! What could be better than a whole month dedicated to what I love to do the most.  Almost nothing! Soooooo....what crafting plans to you have this month? Do you have unfinished projects you'd like to get completed? Would you like to try a new craft? Maybe beading, polymer clay, or floral design. Oooo, I know...you want to take a painting class....yeah, that's the ticket. How about gathering up your girlfriends for a craft night at your home. That would be a great time for everyone! What ever it is you want to do, set aside a couple of hours to do it. Who knows, it could become a new creative passion in your life.

What am I going to do? The list is long.
* I want to sort though my completed inventory, box and label it so I won't be all unorganized this fall.
* I would like to gather a few friends for a craft night (or day). Interested?
* I am planning on donating excess crafting supplies to a local school or two for their art or afterschool program.   I know....I could really supply more places than that according to my hubby.
* I want to update my Etsy and Artfire sites with some new items that are in the works.
* I want to spread the love of crafting and the joy, relaxation, and satisafaction it brings to others.
* I will be attending the Creative Painting Convention in Las Vegas!!!!   Love the trade floor!
* I would like to get some ideas onto paper for some new patterns.
*  Paint! I want to paint!
* Cut wood. I love the smell of sawdust.
* I want to make a career out of crafting and sharing it with others.
* Get my show applications completed and turned in.
* Start putting tutorials on my blog...you know, this one you're reading right now. ;o)

Sourcream Chicken Enchiladas

This is one of my 'go-to' recipes. Easy to make, freezes well, and delicious.

Sourcream Chicken Enchildas

1 pint sour cream
1 can Campbells Cream of Chicken Soup
1 small can of chopped green chilis
1 8 oz pkg. shredded Monterrey Jack cheese.
1 dozen (plus a few) flour tortillas
1/2 cooked chicken OR 3 chicken breasts (chopped or pulled)
            (sometimes I use 1/2 a cooked Costco chicken)
1 can green enchilada sauce

Brown chicken and season to with a bit of garlic salt and pepper. Cool, chop or pull. In a large mixing bowl, add chicken, sour cream, cream of chicken soup, chilis, 1/3 can of enchilada sauce and 2/3 of the jack cheese. Mix well. Sometimes I add ground cumin (couple of sprinkles).
Spoon onto flour tortilla, enough to fill well. Roll. Place in baking pan.
Pour rest of enchilada sauce over enchiladas, sprinkle rest of cheese over enchiladas as well.
Bake at 350 degrees about 30 minutes or so until hot and bubbly.
Serves 6-8 persons.

Thankful for Valentines...

but I'm so glad it over. It was busy, and for that I'm thankful. I survived my first Valentine's Day as the only florist in a small shop. I also completed my first funeral (for the owner's father in law). I seriously think they chose the largest thing in the book. I was really pleased with all the pieces, as was the family. But I think the greatest compliment came from the mortuary personell who kept saying how lovely they were and that they were some of the nicest they've seen in some time.
Big thanks go out to my friend, Diane. She came by after work 4 nights to help green vases and learn to do several thingls like a rose wrap, dozen roses, etc. She also pulled 12 and 14 hour days with me over the weekend prepping for deliveries on Monday. We couldn't have pulled it off without her.
Suzy took a personal day on Monday from her regular job to be at the shop and basically run the front end of the store. What a trooper she is. She comes in nightly after her regular job for a few hours and on Saturdays.
Monday was a busy day. The drivers were busy all day, we had extra girls on hand to help walk in customers, we had to order extra roses and pick them up, my brother came to help out all day with me, and it flowed pretty well. I seriously created arrangments all day...all day.
As much as I enjoy playing with flowers I was seriously grateful to have Tuesday off. The dogs finally got to go explore on our walk on the mountain, I caught up on laundry, groceries, prepping meals, sweeping and mopping the floors, etc. Oh, and I got to see my hubby. What a trooper he's been the last two weeks. I look forward to spending time with him this weekend. I may even get a little crafting done...I hope.

Trailhound Smokers win 3rd overall at BBQ Contest

Many of you know Timm and I, along with our kids started a BBQ team last year. Well, over the last weekend we went to Rock Springs, AZ for a contest. We decided at the last minute to attend so Timm was really scrambling during the week to get ready. It was certainly worth all the chaos and prep work.

Timm and I ended up getting four 'walks' to receive awards. We were excited, amazed, shocked, humbled....you see it's really the first time we won in a sanctioned event. It was quite an accomplishment for us. Congrats to all the teams that participated as well. Judges said there was lots of mighty fine food to taste and critique. Congrats to our friends with R&R (pictured with us), they also got several walks and a 1st in ribs.

graphically challenged

I really hate to admit defeat...or partial defeat at least. I am saying it outloud...I am graphically challenged when it comes to digital scrapbooking, etc. I've been trying all day to create a new header. I found a cute leader that matches the page pretty much. I inserted my photo...okay I don't get the transparancy thing, but I added one anyway. I added my text. Next, it was saved as a JPEG and GIF formats, they looked clear. I uploaded to my blog and.....the lettering is blurry...again. What gives?! Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

new year...new job

I used to work at this adorable shop called Lollipops & Roses several years ago. It was full of wonderful gifts geared towards women, babys, flowers and homemade treats and goodie baskets. However; as the economy started to waiver, they made cut backs and I volunteered to leave so one of the other girls wouldn't be cut.

As the economy worsened, tough decisions had to be made. The adorable shop of 5000 square feet was to be no more. Their current florist sub-leased the store from the orginal owner and was moved to a smaller location down the street to just 1200 square feet. I never went into the new store....until......

It's a sad, ugly story...but the outcome is the old owner has returned and taken the store back. I received a frantic call just 9 days before Christmas asking me to come and be her florist and try to pick up what pieces could be found. Sooo, that's where I've been since December 17th.

Now, I have to tell you...I did think about looking for part time work to fill in the holes around here. I have to admit...I'm tired of just squeaking by. (Fortunately, my hubby has a great job, it's just getting hard to get by on one income anymore.) I even filled out applications for JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby. Guess they didn't call me for a reason.

These flowers went to a 90 years young gal last week for her birthday. It was gorgeous! I sure hope she enjoyed them. It was a real pleasure to create this arrangement for her. Just glad I wasn't the one to deliver it, it was heavy and tall (45") and filled with 90 roses.

Please help us spread the word, Lollipops & Roses will be coming back to it's former glory (although smaller scale). A new beginning...

Don't you just love this time of year? A fresh start...a new beginning...a new outlook on life...
As much as I love Christmas, its so nice to put it all away and have a cleaner, uncluttered house if even for just a little while. I pull down my old calendar, post important dates in the new one and put it up. There is much to do this time of year...most of it cleaning, sorting and organizing. Hey, why do you think Walmart fills the enitre garden department with storage bins...lol.
Last year, I spent most of January cleaning, purging, and organizing my paint room. Costco has oversized shoe boxes and large totes...all clear... that I used along with some really sturdy metal kitchen style shelving. I am pleased to say, it's stayed organized and has been easy to keep clean and neat.
This year, I am planning on taking inventory of finished product, box it up by category, and put it away nice and neat. Currently, it seems to be in several places so I really don't know what I have. Of course...there will be purging invovled. I've vowed to remove inventory that hasn't sold well and donate it away.
I've begun working at a floral and gift shop I used to work for so I know my time is more limited than it used to be. I need to focus, stay organized, and still manage to get things done for shows. My plan is to do fewer but bigger shows so I'm not killing myself come October-December. That's the plan at least.

The Las Vegas Strip explodes into a frenzy of fireworks, Fremont Street will experience virtual fireworks, and tens of thousands (okay, way more than that) of people will be gazing in awe and celebrating the new year in style in Las Vegas. I live in Las Vegas, and I've never been one to join the crowds on the strip or downtown. We normally enjoy the amazing display in the comfort of our own home. This year, however we'll be in Wildomar, CA for a BBQ competition.

I'd like to wish you a Happy New Year, one full of good thoughts and good health...being thankful for what you have, helping others in need, and being the best person you can be. May all our creative endeavors be successful.

Broken Phones

I'm sorry, but I just need to vent a little. The cell phone insurance company is on my list today. I guess I need to go back to last week. I had my phone replaced after it was run over at the last craft show. It was all good at that point. I paid my deductable, filled my claim on line, my new phone came the next day, all was right again with the world. I'm sad and embarassed to tell you that I dropped my newly replaced phone o Sunday and the touch screen is shattered. I couldn't believe it. ARRRRGGGGG! It seemed to be working so I thought I'll just buy a new outer casing for it...but no. The yuppies at the Verizon store said they don't carry any parts to replace or repair. I couldn't even buy the pre-cut screen protector to keep the pieces in place. Well, now the new phone is not working correctly so I decided I had to suck it up, admit defeat and pay the deductable again to replace it. They yuppies told me I could have two claims in a 12 month period...but apparently not a week apart(they didn't tell me that part). I thought the computer froze the screen, so I called the insurance company. I just need to let you know that they really don't want to speak with anyone. In fact, the gal even hung up on me. Unbelievable...well, not really. I called back, went through the process to get to a real person again, asked to speak to a manager or supervisor...guess what, they aren't there today. I ended up at another dept that I was told could do the same for me. Still, they can't help me over the phone. I must file special paperwork, it will be reviewed, then if found to be valid, my claim will be continued and a replacement phone will be sent. Apparently phone fraud is a huge deal, and filing claims within 6 months of each other falls under that catagory. It's not like the one I have now will do me any good. It will get sent to the insurance company just like the first one, they will repair it and send it out again as a remanufactured phone to the next clumsy fool. SIGH...okay I think I'm done now. Oh, they faxed the papers to my hubby office, I hope he brings them home tonight.
Again, I am so sorry but I just needed to get that off my chest.

Show and Tell Friday

My craft show season is over...thankfully. It's been a long one this year. Normally, I am done the week before Thanksgiving...now I remember why. I am mentally and physically done and worn out by then.

My last event was one I've shopped at and wanted to do for several years in St. George...the Dicken's Christmas Festival. While I had a good time, it wasn't what I expected. The atmosphere is amazing. The booths are decorated, lit up, and prefered to be in a Dickens village theme. Vendors must wear costumes that are reminiscent of the period. That was something I really stressed over. I thought I looked cute, don't know how Dickens...but cute anyway.

One of the gals backed out at the last minute so I had an extra 5 feet to fill. Stressing over the whole thing, I called my best friend Diane to take her stuff with me. Thankfully, she abliged. Timm took Tuesday off, drove me, my stuff, the truck and toyhauler (my accomodations for 5 days) there; help me set up, got the toyhauler set up in the parking lot; enjoyed a peaceful dinner and I sent him on his way back home...along with the dogs.

The show was full of people, I mean really full of people. One of the fullest crowds I'd seen all season. Sadly, they were there to watch their children perform on the two stages...not really there to shop. I swear, people ran, yes...ran, past the booths to get to the stages. It made the 4 eleven hour days longer than they already were...and yes, I said eleven hour days. The other girls would drop me off at the RV, I'd lock myself inside, review the days sales, and go to bed. I'd do it all over again the next day.

Ironically, it was started almost 30 years ago because the founders thought Christmas was getting too commercial (even back then), yet probably 85%-90% of the booths were commercial product. A crafter has the most difficult time competing with retail product.

Thankfully, Diane came up Friday after work, finishing the day and Saturday with me. Timm came up on Saturday evening, bringing Diane's son. They helped us tear down, having guys to haul stuff out is really helpful. We spent the night and came home Sunday morning.

A quick review...one long day setting up, 4 longer days selling a mere fraction of what I should have, seeing more strollers in one place than I thought was possible, thankfully a fairly quick tear down, 5 nights in the toyhauler, and a lost (damaged and recovered 3 days later) cell phone, a peaceful ride home and a great nights sleep in my own bed Sunday eveing.

I wish each and everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Families may far apart, but not in our hearts.

There is much to be thankful for...and not just this time of year.

I am thankful for my family. We have 2 strong healthy boys and a sweet daughter in law. Our oldest and his wife purchased a home this year. Both our boys were hired permanently by their employers. They may not be the dream jobs but they are both working and making their way in this crazy world. Timm still works for the same company after 33 years. I'm thankful for the stablility and comfort it brings.

We've been married 28 years. I'm thankful to wake up next to Timm every morning. I can't even imagine what my life would be like without him. He is my soul mate.

My parents will be married 50 next April. I'm thankful they are such great role models for us and so many others. They are kind to each other, loving and giving. I'm thankful for the values and morals they gave me, I hope I have done the same for my children. Lord knows I've worked hard at it.

We've not traveled much this year, but am thankful for and have enjoyed the trips we've made. It's comforting to know that the truck and toyhauler are now paid off. One of the first thoughts when we did that was that we'll never be homeless. lol

We've lost a couple of friends and family this year, but they are thought of often by many. Knowing they are in Heaven makes it more comforting but we still miss them down here.

Warm Thanksgiving wishes go out to all our friends and family on this day. Share your homes and hearts with others, spread your hospitality and give of yourself. Share you kindness, faith, and love with others.

One Show Left

That's right...just one show left. I've had a great season so I can't really complain but now I am scrambing to finish new product between now and Nov. 30. I'll lose a few days in all that with Thanksgiving, tree hunting and window painting but I've stocked up on 5 Hour Energy and need to get some of the bigger stuff completed. The Dickens Festival is Dec. 1-4 in St. George at the Dixie Center. I've shopped it for years and its so much fun to be there. I'm hoping as a vendor I'll feel the same way this year. In the meantime, I gotta bet busy...talk to you soon.

Show and Tell Friday

I know there lots of craft shows going on this time of year. I'll be a two of them this weekend. The first one is going on already. Behind the Picket Fence is a home boutique I've had the pleasure of being a part of the quite a few years. Jen puts on a great show and its close to home for me. Take the time to visit this one. You won't be disappointed.

I'm doubling up this Saturday and participating in a one day show on the far northwest side of town. Brandy and Julie had their first event in July and I think they did a terrific job. This one is looking to be even better. They got a large number of vendors so it should be exciting. Let's hope the weather holds out for the vendors on the patio and grass areas. I booked super early and will be inside...thankfully.

So there you go...far northwest just off US95 and Durango and northeast on Sunrise Mountain. I hope to see you at one of them. Sunday, I'll be prepping like a mad woman for my last show of the year in St. George. It's the Dicken's Festival...I'll give more information in a few days on that one. Show and Tell Friday

It's been a whirl wind week after The Great Craft Festival last weekend. It was a pretty good show. My friend, Diane and I were scrambling to get enough stuff done for the booth. We featured Christmas and Harvest. I forgot to take photos right away so some of the stuff was already gone by the time I got around to it.

The tall, lighted posts flew out of there! I wish they were easy to ship, I'd list them on Etsy. Speaking of Etsy, I've had a couple of orders this week for Thanksgiving pieces and a pattern...WOOT, WOOT!

And if I wasn't busy enough already, we have a BBQ here at home this weekend for about 40 people. Yeah, I know, I said let's do it. Apparently, I was out of my mind at that moment. Everyone enjoys them so much and I hate to deny them some really tasty, smoked BBQ...and it would be spring again before we got around to it so it's this weekend. Come on by, there will be lots of food. Besides, we just bought this awesome smoker and Timm and the boys are dying to use it. We've been cleaning and prepping for days and would love to have you come...it's Satuday at 2pm. We hope to see you there.

As a crafter I can tell you that we are often left wondering if what we do is appreciated by others. Veteran's Day

I would like to extend my heartfelt thankfulness to each and every member of the military, past and present, for their service and sacrifices made to protect this great nation of ours. Your families have suffered and sacrificed with you even though they've not been near you...which is the biggest sacrifice of all.
I live just a few miles from Nellis Air Force Base here in Las Vegas now, I grew up with the base as my neighbor...literally. Planes and jets come and go all hours of the day and night. To some, it is an annoyance but I realize it is the sound of freedom and I don't mind. I get to watch the Thunderbirds as they practice routines and sometimes I swear I could reach out and touch them they fly over so close. I feel priviledged to see them so often.
I have friends that are in the military, some are retired too. My father, uncles, and grandfathers, and father in law all served our country as well. I want to say 'THANK YOU' for your time, integrity, devotion, pride, service and sacrifice. They seem like such simple words but I want you all to know they come with great emotion and thought.

The Craft Festival This Weekend

Come out to Cashman Center this weekend, Nov. 5-7 for the Great Craft Festival! This is a wonderful craft show with lots of handmade crafts for home decorating, gift giving, eating, and something for yourself I'm sure. I'll be there along with my friend, Diane with fun stuff you know you want. Come by, say HI, shop with us...we'd sure appreciate it. We'll be on the first aisle about halfway down. We've been busy crafting our guts out to restock for you! See you there!

Show Schedule Update

Circumstances have changed, thus...my show schedule has changed a bit. You won't find me at the CSN Fall Fun Fest this coming weekend. However, I do encourage you to head out there and attend. There will be lots of crafts from many local artists, along with concerts, carnival and more. There will be trick or treating on Saturday afternoon as well. It all takes place on the CSN campus at Charleston and Torrey Pines.

Removing this show from my schedule left me feeling like I needed to replace it. With that being said, you'll be able to find me at the Steve Powers Great Craft Festival at Cashman Center November 5-7. Please come by and see me. This is always a great event and I'm looking forward to being part of it once more.

Show and Tell Friday

Last weekend Timm and I drove to Reno to attend the McQueen HS Craft Faire. It's a great show plus we get to see and visit with his brother and family while there. It's just a great time all around. Friday is a really long day, but we drove almost half of the distance in the dark. It seems to go faster in the dark, maybe because you can't see landmarks. Set up was easier this year and I was actually finished before the show opened. Friday night sales were great. Shoppers pay $10 on Friday evening...and the best part...no strollers or children! I think I would shop on Friday as well. I missed seeing a couple of friends that night. One had a family emergency, another came on Saturday. Timm had never been there before and was amazed at how these gals shopped. The whole weekend was good. Sales were up from last year, the weather was pleasant, and customers were happy. We tore down in record time thanks to Timm and the JROTC. I always give them a genorous donation for their efforts. Once again, the volunteer staff put on a wonderful event!

John and his family are doing well. The grandkids are growing like weeds. Oh....they have puppies! Eight springer spaniel puppies about 3 weeks old, talk about adorable!!! They were just starting to wonder off the bed a little, and it's amazing how they pregressed in just 4 days. It's a good thing they weren't old enough to bring home...Cassy would be jealous anyway.

Well, two shows down, 4 to go for my season. The next couple are easier ones, then the last one is a 4 day show in St. George. I'll keep you updated. Have a great weekend.

Painting on Tin Tips

This morning Patricia at Creative Arts Lifestyle shared a great bunch of tips in her email and said we could share with friends....so, here you go my friends.

and will attempt to help you rescue your Tin prep in 5 easy steps!

(Dun Dun dun!) (Dramatic Music) ( I love doing that!)

Let's take a look at each of these one by one:

1: Rusty Surfaces:

Rust is a live substance, and will spread if not dealt with. Use Naval Jelly according to manufacturers directions. This will deal with the rust. Then wash, DRY, sand, wipe of dust and Prime.

2. What to prime with?

Wipe on a coat of Multi-Surface Primer with a Varnish Sponge.

I use Deco Art (A girl after my own heart), but just remember to stay with in your brands to prevent complications.

3. Chipped and peeling Paint?

Mix some Multi-Purpose Sealer into your base coat - this helps the paint adhere.

And ALWAYS apply more than one basecoat. If paint chips it chips in layers.

4. Uneven Basecoat application?

Using a spongy applicator is key here.

I like to wipe on my tin basecoats with a Varnish Sponge or Foam Roller, not sure why but using a brush to apply a basecoat on Tin always leaves streaks.

5. To protect a piece of painted tin after it is painted, apply several coats of Varnish, and follow with a coat of Wax when the varnish is good and dry. Works like a Champ!

Next stop...Reno

Yup, that's right...the next stop on the Twiddlebugz tour 2010 will be in Reno at McQueen High School October 15-17. We leave about 3:30am from Las Vegas and head out across the great, empty vastness known as the Nevada desert...it is a long uneventful drive with just a few towns to break up the view that never seems to change. We'll hit Tonopah about sunrise and reach Reno in time for lunch. After that, we'll set up at 1pm, the show opens at 5pm on Friday and runs through Sunday afternoon. Timm is going with me this year. This is a huge step for him and I'm glad he's coming. I just hope he survives the trip. He is bringing the propane smoker and ribs to cook for his brother's family while we're there. He's looking forward to spending time with his brother, that's for sure. Come out to see me and lots of other creative and talented crafters at this event.

A Successful Art in the Park

This year was a great year for us at Art in the Park. Our booth was full of shoppers from early morning till we closed up each night. There were happy shoppers everywhere you looked. At times you couldn't even move I think. It's what crafters dream of for their shows.

This is part of our Christmas display. It took up a third of our space. Large items sold very well. Lighted posts, ice skates, countdown blocks and painted screens were the best sellers.

Fall was an area stuffed full of lighted posts, pumpkins and more. Sold all but one fall door. It's funny how things sell in streaks. Several people would purchase the same items right behind each other.

We had a section for baby/children. Autumn's bows always do very well. As it got chilly on Sunday blankets sold well when people bought them to cover up babies in strollers.

We set up an everyday area out in front of the booth. Even with a double space we were packed to the brim. We were so please with the outcome of the event. Despite the rain on Friday during set up, we got it all done. Saturday was pretty humid (especially for us dry, desert people). Sunday cooled off quite a bit, it rained some more, and shoppers were still smiling and enjoying themselves. I love our space, it's protected from the wind, has shade, and space behind the booth. I've already put in for the same space for next year. Thanks to everyone who shopped with us, gave us words of encouragement, and more. We appreaciate each and everyone of you!

It's our anniversary

I look back and wonder where the time goes. It's hard to believe that we've been married 28 years now. We've had our ups and downs just like everyone else but pleased to say a lot more ups full of great memories, accomplishments, and joy.

We've enjoyed our down to earth lifestyle...after it is the simple things in life that can bring the greatest pleasures. Memories filled with camping, exploring, Scouting, and family...that is the best.

I look ahead to the future knowing we will always be together. We've thankful to both have wonderful families with parents that gave us great examples to live by. I pray we do the same for our children. Happy Anniversary honey...I will always love you!

Art in the Park is this weekend!

That's right! One of the biggest and best outdoor shows in the west is in our own backyard. Art in the Park will be held this coming weekend, October 2-3 at the parks in Boulder City. This is part of my booth from last year...but I assure you I've got lots of great stuff this year as well.

For a close parking space plan to be there early...like by 8am...but don't let parking bother you. You can ride the CAT busses that will be running every 5-10 minutes and make your day much easier and less stressful. They drop you off right at the parks and pick you up when you're finished. All fees for the busses go to a local charity for the weekend. Look for the Southwest Diner on the way in...I painted the signs on the marqi and the side of the building. They have delicious homestyle food by the way, I highly reccomend them.

Show and Tell Friday

Another Friday rolls around again...I'm telling you I think there are some days missing in between them. Well, at least it seems that way right now. I've been to several doctor's appts recently, how I just love the annual boob squishing (I know its necessary though). An endocrinology appointment showed improvement. Tuesday, I had a spot on my face frozen, it should be looking "lovely" just in time for my first craft show of the season. Seriously, as nice as the doctor was I don't think he could have been any younger and still be a specialist. Guess that means I am realizing my own age. Anywho, right now I don't think I could cover that thing with wall spackling to hide it. P.S. I stayed home all day.
I pulled my craft trailer up to the patio and gutted it this week. I've needed to clean, sort, discard and donate to make room for new product I've got this year. It's still not a completed project, but its close. Thank goodness I don't live in Seattle or somewhere else it rains all the time...although I would truly enjoy the greener scenery.

I have completed lots of tagging of items, a couple of doors, some more screen paintings, and a few more things. I really like this pumpkin one. I still need to sand the edges of the frame.

Detail isn't very good, I took it with my phone...but you get the jest of it anyway.

Final prepartations for Art in the Park are being completed. I enjoyed lunch with Diane yesterday, we went over lots of details, booth layout and more. I am feeling pretty good about it this year. If you're in the southern Nevada area (or anywhere close by) I encourage you to make the trek to Boulder City next weekend. It's one of the best outdoor shows in the west. I hope to see you there.

My Fall Craft Show Schedule

Here it is everyone...finally. I put much effort and time in creating a show schedule and flyer. This year I am actually printing photos of this to mail and hand out to customers. I just love the photo. It's by my dear friend, Ruth Denton. I swear, she really should pursue photography as a career. I was going to use it last year and just never got around to using it, so this year I want to thank her for the use of this photo.

Show and Tell Friday

Before you say it...I know I missed last week. This dang computer of mine is dying a painful, prolonged death that is beyond frustrating to me at this point. I did back up my files so if it should take the final plunge at least I will still have my pictures, files, etc. I would totally freak out if I lost all that stuff.

I did make a lot of progress between the last 2 weeks. I painted up a dozen skates. I really like them and they are always a good seller for me.

Can I justsay how much I like this roller skate. I'd paint a ton of them if I could just find them. If you have a pair or find any...please send them my way...pretty please.

Honestly, I can't remember I you've had a chance to see these yet. There are ghosts and Frankies too. I think I need pumpkins and bats to go with them, don't you.

Some cupboard doors have also been on the table. A couple of snowmen ones are always a favorite. I also completed one with a scarecrow and pumpkins that turned out awesome if I say so myself. It's inspired by Barb Jones. Love her new book by the way. Camera ia charging or I'd have a picture of it for you. Also framed up a dozen screen paintings. I've had the dangest time finding 8x10 frames. I have to tell you I purchased 8 1/2x11's because I didn't measure them...so stupid.

In Wednesday's post I told you about the sign painting I did this week for a diner in Boulder City...check it out please. That was a project I don't really want to repeat in the summer sun anytime soon.

Have a wonderful and safe Labor Day weekend. We'll be heading out to Mesquite, NV to the Smokin' in Mesquite BBQ Competition. Sadly, we are not in it this year so we'll be there helping out and supporting new BBQ friends we've made this year. The New Southwest Diner Sign

This week I spent 2 long, long, long days in Boulder City repainting the sign for the Southwest Diner. Can I tell you its much taller than it looks. Fortunately, Monday's weather worked with me for a pleasant day of 90 degrees and slight breeze. I'm so thankful for that since I spent 11 hours crawling around on scaffolding. I repainted all the red, taped off, and repainted the white 'restaurant' lettering, and removed the old neon tubing that didn't work anymore on Monday. A boom lift was ordered and I went back out on Wednesday to finish the sign. It was hot on Wednesday and barely a breeze...and after two full days in the sun I have the burn to prove it. I'm thankful for the boom lift, it let me work at any height I needed to. I felt much safer as well with a cage around me. I had precut letters at home so I traced them onto the sign and began the masking off process. It seems like the longest part. Several coats of paint were layed down, tape was removed and I outlined the lettering and added a little detail to fill and 'cute it up' a little (according to Cindy). Now the sign looks great from both sides, it's nice, bright and refreshed...and way better than the old banner they had attached to the sign. Both the owner and I are very pleased with the way it turned out. P.S. I suggested vinyl lettering for the lit sign with address underneath. It will be a cleaner look when it's backlit.

Wow! This was a quick week. Busy, busy I tell ya. I've got lots of stuff in the midst of progress including a bunch of ice skates, posts, garlands, and more. The dining room is getting cluttered and full of stuff that needs to be tagged and boxed for shows.

I'd like to share picture frames with you this week. Here are several of what was completed early in the week.

I've also been working on a schedule for some fun make it-take it workshops for the holidays. Need to get samples cut and completed so I can post pictures for ya. Hopefully, you'll be seeing that next Friday. Happy weekend eveyone!

Show and Tell Friday

It's that time of year when I start to panic about the upcoming craft show season...which shows, show fees due, trying to fit everything into a schedule, deleting dates to make a realistic schedule, and having enough product to do all the events I want to do. Anyone that does craft shows certainly knows what I'm going through at the moment...and I feel your pain and anxiety as well. I think I have it all worked out at the moment...but tomorrow will be another day with another dilema I'm sure.
Every year I say I am going to start working on big stuff earlier but then there is trying to figure out where to put it all. That being said, I've been working on smaller items that are easier to store.

This week I stitched up som Halloween ornies and actually finished them in the same week...I know, you're shocked! I felt pretty good about it myself.

I know...before you say it...they're cute! I can't help it...I do cute and happy. Scary is hard for me to do.

I can do primitive and really love it but cute just comes so much easier for me.

I also finally finished those 6 reindeer I've been working on for what seems like forever. They turned out really well and I think they're pretty cool. Not cute...maybe classic? Slightly primitive? Whatever they may be called, I like them.

Show and Tell Friday

A little folk art paintings for show and tell this week. Actually, a little more than folk art. Show and Tell this week is the fiberglass screening projects I've worked on recently. I painted most of these in June while Timm was taking a seminar. I checked out the sights and shops in the mornings and painted in the hotel in the afternoons.

I really like this one with the basket, I think it turned out great.

Oh, I miss Kathy Rueger and her designs. This bear is one of her designs from her last book. She had painted it on some rought wood and it said, "don't open door for strangers". I think he's cute anyway and would look great in someone's cabin or lodge look room.

And you know I love my Americana. I painted a bunch of these flags with assorted sayings on them. Some others include "Home of the Brave", "Liberty & Justice".

I plan to share with you next week as well. The Reindeer are almost done. I'm working on a schedule for make it-take it projects, Art in the Park will be here sooner than I know it...Oh, I gotta go. Thanks for visiting.

Las Vegas Etsy Team

I feel like Vegas is moving up in the world of craftiness. We now have a Las Vegas Etsy Team!

Sarah Flake of Flaky Friends recently founded and organized this group that is growing by leaps and bounds. In just over 3 months, we have over 200 members in the Southern Nevada area with Etsy shops working together to lift and promote each other. Good things are happening with this group and I encourage you to join if you have an Etsy shop and live in the Southern Nevada area. I am proud to say Twiddlebugz is a member of this fantastic team. Look for our members at just about every local fair and event.

In fact, our Handmade in Vegas team is promoting their first event...Mt Charleston Arts and Crafts Fair will be this Sunday, August 8 at the Mt Charleston Resort. It's the one at the base of Kyle Canyon. Get of the Las Vegas heat and join many of our members in the cool air of Mt Charleston. Pack a picnic lunch, have lunch at the resort, listen to some cool jazz music and shop with some talented crafters showcasing some of their best works.

It's easy to get to...take US95 north, exit Durango, turn right, turn right on Farm, go through the light at Cimmaron, turn left into Lamplight Village. It's in the community center just inside the gate (they will be open). I hope to see you there.

Cassy turns 4

Come to Duck Creek Days

Escape the heat of summer and head up to the cool mountains of Southern Utah. Duck Creek Days are this Friday and Saturday in Duck Creek Village! There will lots of crafters/vendors, games and rides for kids, a chili cook off, lots of great food vendors and of course...me! haha Seriously, if you aren't busy you should plan to make the short drive, enjoy som cooler weather, relax and enjoy the events of the day. There will even be a live band Friday and Saturday nights. Heck, stay the whole weekend. I'll have lots of my famous signs, some awsome picture frames, yardstakes and more. Diane will also have some treasures of her own to share with you as well this year. See ya there! Here is a picture of some of my goods from last year. As requested there will be more fishing related signs this year.

Hugs, kisses, and best wishes to our youngest son, Chris! Today is his 23rd birthday (I know, you wonder how I had a child when I was only 7...ROFL). He is a fine young man that I am so proud of. He enjoys riding his 4-wheeler, camping, shooting (he is quite the marksman), video games, and more. He is an Eagle Scout and his goal is to become a police officer, and considering time in the military to progress towards his goal. He and his dog Shelby make quite the pair. Happy Birthday to my sweetie pie! We love you!

Show and Tell Friday

Wow, it's been a long time since I had show and tell. While in Phoenix last week I was pleased to complete about 2 dozen or so screen paintings, all I need to do is get them framed this weekend and they will be done. I'm working on some yard stakes right now...butterflies, ladybugs, flowers and flamingos, yes I said falmingos. I thought my mom would fall off her chair when I told her about them. She told me how tons of people in Florida really have them in their yards. I think they are hysterical.
If you're in Vegas, stop by the Crafter's Guild Summer Boutique at West Sahara and Cimmeron. It's in the church, Our Lady of Las Vegas I think is the name. Lots of creative quality work will be on display and for sale. Support and buy 'hand made', it's worth it. I donated 2 items since I'm not participating.
Also, I attended a meeting last night for the Etsy group, Handmade in Vegas. There were quite a few of us there, which is good. We made origami cranes. They will be sent to the gulf in support of the wildlife cleanup efforts. I'm not in on all the details, but I believe they will be sold to raise funds.
Anyway, lots going on around here and am getting into craft mode to prepare for fall shows. Please, if I slow down...kick me in the butt to get moving again please. I also need to get my Arts A Flutter submissions done this weekend as well. Guess I'd better get moving.
