Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone! Spring is here and it is absolutely gorgeous today. Thea Easter baskets are filled, deviled eggs are almost done, and dinner is at Mom and Dad's this afternoon. Our kids are grown so we don't hide eggs anymore. In fact, my youngest went to Utah to ride his new sprt quad. I don't know if I like this 'growing' up stuff. He did like his Easter basket though, it was full of fun stuff he could use and treats he likes (not jelly beans). Anyway, Happy Easter and enjoy the real reason for this day, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Spring is in the air

What a gorgeous day! Spring is the in the is the pollen...hehe. The mulberry trees are starting to bud, the apricot tree has blossomed and now starting to leaf. Mustard is the weed it is. Will spray them this weekend after making another trip to Lowes. It was cold on Sunday but today just couldn't get any better. The birds are singing, the dogs are lounging in the sun, and the sky is bright blue!

Life is good today!

Life Goes On

Things may get back to normal around here...maybe...waht ever normal is anyway. Funeral services are over for my mother in law. It was really beautiful and well put together. All 8 grandsons were the pallbearers, all the sons spoke, including my hubby. I asked God to give him strength to get through it and he did a wonderful job. He get so emotional when speaking about people and things he is very passionate his mom. Scouting is another passionate subject of his...but that's for another day.

My mom and aunt have taken care of arrangements for my grandma. Her wishes were to be cremated, a small memorial service will be held in April when her other daughter can make it down here from Oregon. It's has really been an emotionally draining week, and I'm ready for it to be over.

I'm still stripping flooring...I don't know who the bigger retard is...the guy who actually stained over laminate flooring...or me, the one taking it all off just to save some money. Ok, I think it might actually be me. I have about 3/4 of it done, will need to finish the rest today 'cuz we are having a flooring party on Saturday. Our kids are coming over to help lay the flooring, we're cranking up the smoker for the pork butt and brisket, and my parents will be here for dinner. I am so eady for this project to be done. Still need to finish the hallway and one wall in the living room but I can do that after the floor is down. The flooring is the part that's driving me crazy!

In Passing

This has been a hectic year so far as you could tell from yesterday's post. I didn't want to combine remodeling with sorrow so today's blog is not upbeat and entertaining. We have been spending countless hours at the hospitals, rehab and hospice between trying to get the house done.

My hubby and I live on the same property with his mom. We've been here 25 years raiding our children, watching after the place while his parents traveled, and taking care of his parents as well. Dad passed away Thanksgiving Day 1996 after suffering through a broken hip and emphasima complications. We drew closer to his mom afterwards and my children just adored their grandma. She has aged gracefully and always recovered from what ever she encountered in life. January 9th Agnes fell and broke her hip. After that, she spent time in the hospital dealing with a small bout of pneumonia, had hip surgery, went to rehab, then an assisted living center. She was transferred back to the hospital, then to hospice. She passed on Monday, March 3 with her children and family around her and has moved on to meet her Heavenly Father.

While all this has been happening my grandma has been moved from her senior apartment to an assisted living center. I think this move was harder on her children than it was for her. Mid February, she was admitted to the hospital with a mild case of pneumonia as well. She has COPD so her recovery has been difficult. She moved to a pulmonary care center; there she was diagnosed with demensia and doctors said she was unable to return home. Paperwork had just been completed to move her to a nursing home when she took a turn for the worse. My grandma passed away Tuesday, March 4th to be with her Father as well.

I just don't know what else to say or do right now, I felt the need to express myself in words because I am tired of crying. Death is never an easy thing to deal with but there is great comfort in knowing that loved ones no longer suffer and have moved on to a better place.

What a hectic life

Let me just first of all I am a real do-it-yourselfer and love to save money. Life around here has been crazy since the new year started. I decided the carpet was outta here and bought wood laminate flooring off Craigs List. My hubby said lets paint the walls first. I found free paint on Craigs List from a local paint contractor. I decided they needed to be textured before painting them (by the way, I've never done that before), then the ceiling looked terrible so we had to paint them. Tearing up the carpet was a horendous (is that spelled right) job. Thank you boys for doing that for mom and dad...but you could've covered up the computer at least. It is disgusting what is under carpet. Weeks later there is still micro-dust everywhere. We've replaced all the lights in the living room, kitchen, and dining room along with the ceiling was only 25 years old...did it really need to be retired....YES! The new one is so quiet I don't even realize it's running. The walls are looking awesome by the way. I used a burnt sienna/rusty red color in the dining room and a camel in the living room. Today, the floor is still not down, and I still need to texture the hallway so I can complete the painting. We finally just put down a couple of layers of paint on the floor so we could go barefoot. It kinda echoes in here, need to get curtains back up and an area rug to absorb some sound. Of course, I will be making them. I guess I need to quit sleeping.
